Dr Regina Karousou-Fokas holds a BA in English and Modern Greek Language and Literature from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Essex.

Her doctorate thesis, University of Reading, explored the psycholinguistics of bilingual speech production.

Since 2006, Regina is an Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages, University of Cambridge, teaching Modern Greek language and linguistics where she coordinates, teaches, supervises and examines undergraduate students for two Greek language papers.

In addition, she has been heavily involved with teaching Greek as a heritage language in the wider community since 2004. Her teaching experience is wide-ranging, being involved with GCSE and A-level teaching and testing as well as language teaching in early years and further education. Regina is an External Examiner for Greek at King’s College London and has for many years been acting as an examiner for the oral part of the GCSE in Modern Greek.

Regina is passionate about bilingualism and language teaching and learning and she is devoted to the promotion of the study of languages and cultures. She has been further pursuing this by setting up community projects and events such the 2014 ‘The World in Cambridge’ event organised by the University’s Equality & Diversity Office and by being a frequent contributor to the Festival of Ideas.
