Occitan is a member of the Romance languages group. There are approximately 10 to 12 million users in Southern France, with 2 million active speakers.
Occitan consists of six main dialects: Lemosin, Auvernhat, Provençal Alpin, Provençal, Lengadocian, Gascon.
