Paul Hoegger
Profile
Originally from Bern in Switzerland, Paul moved to Germany in his late teens to work as a ballet dancer in various companies for 15 years. From 1993 - 2000 he worked as newsreader and presenter for the German World Service (Deutsche Welle Radio) in Cologne.
In 2000 Paul moved to Cambridge to study Modern and Medieval Languages at King's College Cambridge. He holds a BA in French and German and an MPhil in European Literature from the University of Cambridge and has been researching eighteenth-century German drama for his PhD project at the German department of Cambridge University.
Since 2004 Paul has been working as a language supervisor for German at several colleges of Cambridge University. He is Supervisor of Studies for German at Fitzwilliam College. Since 2009 he has been principal examiner and setter for the German Pre-U paper at University of Cambridge International Examinations.
Apart from frequent visits to the theatre, in his spare time Paul loves swimming, cycling and gardening, as well as high altitude walking.
Dr Nikola Baumgarten
Profile
With roots in Bavaria and the Eichsfeld, Nikola was born and raised in Northrhine-Westfalia, Germany. She has lived and worked in Cambridgeshire for over 20 years.
Following her undergraduate studies at the Freie Universität Berlin, Nikola pursued a Ph.D. in American Studies at Harvard University, which focused on European education in the 19th century United States. In the mid- 1990’s she was the German Lektor at Selwyn College and supervised historians and German linguists at other Cambridge Colleges. She has an M.Ed. in Educational Research from Cambridge and a PCGE from the OU.
Nikola has wide experience teaching German across all age groups and, along with her post at CULP, currently teaches adults in the evening program at Hills Road Sixth Form College. She is also a principal examiner for the German A-Level at Cambridge International Examinations. In her free time Nikola enjoys travel, the outdoors and learning new languages.
Hildegard O'Kane
Profile
Hildegard grew up in Germany and graduated from the University of Heidelberg. She moved to Britain in 1989 and has taught German in Adult Education and University contexts since then.
She has been teaching undergraduate students in the German department of the University of Cambridge and for various Cambridge colleges for many years.
One of her interests is Bilingualism as she brought up her children bilingually.
