PHASE 2 – Specification of Goals and Objectives

9
  • Aims (goals) are guidelines for instructors, materials writers, test writers, and learners. They provide a focus for instruction and evaluation. They are overall statements of what your Curriculum will achieve.
  • An objective is a more specific statement of what you will present to the learner in the context of achieving the goal. You may end up with more than one objective for each goal.
  • Learning outcomes (what students will have learned/ will be able to do) are ideally based on ‘needs’ and ‘situation’ analyses and ideologies about language, language learning, and language teaching.
  • They answer the question: what will the students have learned if they follow the curriculum successfully (i.e. if they complete the programme or unit and pass the assessment)?
