Sembène, Ousmame (1975)

Satirical comedy set in post-colonial Senegal.

As Senegal claims its independence from France its citizens celebrate on the streets. Using governmental money, one corrupt official, El Hadji Abdou Kader Beye, decides to marry his third wife, much to the annoyance of his two ex-wives and his daughter. But on his wedding night, El Hadji finds he has been struck by a xala, a curse of impotence. (Cert. 12)
