Persona centres around a young hospital nurse called Alma who is treating a well-known actress, Elisabeth, who refuses to talk but is otherwise sane and healthy.

When Alma is requested to take sole care of the actress at an isolated seaside cottage, she finds that Elisabeth's persona is starting to meld with hers. A complex and unusual film exploring identity and psychology and widely regarded to be one of Ingmar Bergman's best films.
