Pili, the title character, is a young woman living in rural Tanzania. She works relentlessly in the fields for less than a dollar a day and struggles not only to feed her two children but also to conceal her HIV status.

When she is offered the chance to have her own market stall it seems like the perfect opportunity...but what lengths will she go to in order to get the deposit together in just two days?
