This study investigates the traditional practice of storytelling in the Swahili language, and, in particular, the structure of sentences and use of intonation within the oral narrative.
The work is based on sound recordings collected from the Tanga region, Tanzania.
4 parts: 1)Sentence structure 2)Tone groups and syntax 3)A section of tables showing relationships between and incidences of clause-groups, tone-groups etc. 4)A 58-page story, and the text is used to illustrate intonation and clause analysis.
