The film is set in Romania and centres mainly around the character of Romeo, a doctor, and his 18-year-old daughter Eliza, who has won a scholarship to Cambridge University if she can get the required grades on her final exams.

On the eve of sitting her exams Eliza is attacked and sprains her wrist, affecting her ability to write in the exam. Her father must decide if he should help fix her exam results by expediting a liver transplant for a corrupt official.
