This adaptation is based on the 1854 novel of the same name by Camilo Castelo Branco and is set against the Napoleonic Wars.

It follows a young illegitimate boy called Joao who lives in a Catholic orphanage and sets out to discover the truth about his parentage.

In Portuguese with some spoken French and with optional English, French, Spanish and Dutch subtitles.
