A book for intermediate to advanced students that uses, Brazilian, Portuguese, and Lusophone African cinema to enhance the study of Portuguese language and culture, including the sertão, urban violence, political transitions, women, and the legend of Orpheus.

In total fourteen films are featured from Brazil, Cape Verde and Portugal. For each film there are pre- and post-viewing exercises, background information and notes on the directors.

A good choice for those who enjoy using film as a method of improving their descriptive language and comprehension skills.
