Orfeu Negro (1959)
Camus, Marcel
A transformation of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, set in the 'morros', the slums of Rio de Janeiro during the Carnival.
Orpheus is a tram driver and Eurydice is a young girl who has run away from her village to hide with her cousin Serafina. The background of the street carnival, the tram depot and the cliffs overlooking Rio provide an exotic setting for the film. Cert. PG.
In Portuguese with English subtitles.
