This film received a Golden Globe (Academy Awards) award as Best Foreign Language Film in 1998. It is a moving story about the triumph of the human spirit.
The opening scenes are from the Central Station in Rio de Janeiro, crowded with beggars, thieves and unemployed outcasts of society. Here a friendship begins between an elderly lady, Dora, who writes letters for the illiterate, and a recently orphaned boy, Josué. Their journey turns into a hope-inspiring quest for family identity and more fundamental and personal salvation. Cert. 15.
