Set in 1970 and depicts one man’s struggle to reconcile his ideological beliefs with the practicalities of everyday life.

After much political wrangling, it is decided that a new chemical plant is to be built in the small Polish town of Olecko, and Stefan Bednarz, a loyal Party man, is put in charge of its construction.
