Set in Auckland, New Zealand, this film depicts a Maori woman's struggle to bring up her children whilst having to survive within a sub-culture of poverty, crime and domestic violence.

Ultimately tragic, the film is hard-hitting and portrays extremely graphic scenes of physical and sexual abuse as well as moving scenes of a Maori funeral and the tradition of the Haka.
