In this drama set in Palermo in the summer of 1946, Angelo, a WWII soldier, is recovering in a TB clinic, where most of the patients are terminally ill.

He falls in love with one of them, Marta, a former dancer and the ex-lover of an SS, but she will not survive the illness, and Angelo with be left with remorse of his own miraculous recovery and the pain for her loss.

The film is an adaptation of Gesualdo Bufalino's 1981 novel with the same title and is in Italian with optional Italian subtitles.
