In this comedy set in Naples, the retired professor Bellavista dispenses his knowledge of classical philosophy to his friends and family in the colourful Neapolitan apartment block where he lives.

This is an ironic and affectionate take on Naples and its inhabitants by a fellow citizen, Luciano De Crescenzo, who wrote the successful novel on which the script is based.

The film won two David di Donatello and is in Italian throughout.
