The film begins in Albania, just after the fall of communism, where Gino and Fiore are looking to set up a fake company and profit from the grants available.

Along the way they meet a group of Albanians who are headed for Italy in search of a better life and they see parallels with the previous mass exodus of Italians to America in the early twentieth century.
