A lavish portrait of Ludwig II (1845-1886), known as the castle-building ’mad king’ of Bavaria.

It spans the period from his coronation at the age of 19 (in 1864) to the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death in 1886 after he was deposed by the Bavarian government.
