Film adaptation of Giuseppe di Lampedusa's novel 'The Leopard'.

Grandiose depiction of the decline of the Italian aristocracy. Don Fabrizio, an aging Sicilian aristocrat, has to reassess his privileged social position after the unification of Italy. In an attempt to secure his family's place, Fabrizio arranges a marriage between his his nephew Tancredi and the beautiful Angelica, daughter of a wealthy mayor.
