Umberto Domenico Ferrari is an elderly retired civil servant desperately trying to maintain a respectable standard of living despite having to subsist on a rapidly dwindling state pension. His only companion is his dog, Flike, who offers him some consolation for his poverty and the threat of losing his room. As Umberto's life slowly disintegrates, his inner-strength is challenged by thoughts of suicide. (Cert. PG)
