Visconti follows the struggles of a poor fishing community in the Sicilian village of Aci Trezza during the 1940s. The film focuses on the frustrations of a family trying to secure financial security in the face of unscrupulous businessmen. The inhabitants of Aci Trezza are played by real Sicilian fishermen, adding to the documentary-style of the film. (Cert. U)
