Drama about love, life and poetry.

Mario, a fisherman's son, lives in a quiet town on the island of Capri and is in love with Beatrice, a local barmaid, but is unable to express his feelings for her. After being enlisted by the postmaster to deliver mail to the island's new arrival, Mario makes the acquaintance of Pablo Neruda, the dissident Chilean poet living in European exile. Eventually he strikes up a friendship with Neruda, from whom he learns to love poetry and its expressive power. (Cert. U)
