Film adaptation of Verdi's opera based on Shakespeare's 'Othello'.

After leading a successful campaign against the Turks, Otello arrives at a Cypriot seaport with his wife Desdemona. Iago, Otello's seemingly honest ensign, feels slighted when the young Cassio is promoted above him and plots his revenge. Carefully playing on Otello's jealousy, Iago casts doubt on Desdemona's fidelity with tragic consequences. (Cert. U)
