In the early days of World War Two the youth of a small coastal town make a habit of gathering on the seafront to watch as the beautiful Malèna passes by. Renato, one of the boys, becomes so besotted that he takes to spying on her. But as the political situation shifts, Malèna becomes an object of hatred for many when she consorts with a German officer. (Cert. 15)
