This film is based on actual events during World War 2 and draws heavily on the book 'I. G. Farben', by American author Richard Sasuly, and records from the Nuremberg Trials of the chemical company I. G. Farben.

The backdrop is set around 1933 in the Rhein industrial zone where German industrial leaders discuss their interests and policies and decide to help Hitler's war effort and produce lethal gas for use in the concentration camps.
