This film focuses on the memories of Dr Fritz Böhler from Würzburg, a former prison camp doctor working near Stalingrad

The director portrays frail human conditions in the camp by skilfully adding some sound effects (church bells, music, loudspeakers, gongs, whispers, silences) to enhance the monochrome production.

In German, with some dialogue in Russian.
