This semi-documentary-style film was the only Communist film to come out of Weimar Germany and it was banned in Germany (1933-1945).

As depression hits Germany Anni and her parents are evicted from their Berlin home and sent to Kuhle Wampe, a camp that accommodates the ever-growing number of the dispossessed.
