Going back to her childhood days in Belleville, Paris, from 1918 onwards, this film explores the difficult life and singing career of the legendary Edith Piaf, known to the French as the "little sparrow".

Discovered as a singer on the streets by a club owner, Edith goes on to be coached and taken to music halls where she becomes an instant success.
