Belle de jour is a provocative and controversial film which was originally banned for its mature subject matter and is based on the novel by Joseph Kessel.

Catherine Deneuve plays the part of Severine, a bored housewife who indulges in a wild fantasy life of sadomasochism, working in a high-class brothel by day yet avoiding the advances of her 'ordinary' husband by night.
