Adapted from Joseph Kessel's wartime novel, this film depicts the story of an underground cell of French Resistance workers in German-controlled France during the Second World War and covers a four month period between October 1942 and February 1943.

Betrayed, the cell's leader, Gerbier, is captured by the Gestapo and taken to a prison camp.
