Jeux interdits (Forbidden games)
Clément, René, 1952
An unforgettable classic of post-war French cinema, Based on Françis Boyer’s novel ’Les jeux inconnus’ with dialogues taken virtually verbatim from the book.
In June 1940, two children, locked in an intense bond of childhood friendship, assimilate the unsurmountable deaths they have both endured (for Paulette the death of her parents, and for Michel the death of his brother, Georges) and the religious rituals surrounding those deaths. As the children search for crosses for their "cemetery", several memorials from the local churchyard mysteriously go missing, and this creates problems both for the children and the Dollé family.
In French, with optional subtitles in English and Korean
