The two translated stories from the author and filmmaker Sembène Ousmane deal with harsh realities of poverty and unemployment.

In ’Niiwam’ (1976) a grieving father carries the corpse of his son through Dakar; in ’Taaw’ (1986) a family living in poverty rise up against their oppressive father.
