Jean-Louis, a devout Catholic, returns home after ten years abroad. He moves to a provincial town and falls in love with Françoise, a woman he notices in mass. After spending a night talking to the recently divorced Maud, Jean-Louis is determined to engineer a meeting with the beautiful Françoise.
