Le testament d'Orphée (1960)
Cocteau, Jean
Poetic exploration of life and art.
Cocteau's last film, produced with the help of François Truffaut, looks back over the fantastical experiences of a poet. In a world of poetry and mythological iconography, the young poet is judged by Heurtebise and the Princess, visits the home of Pallas Athena and is tempted by the Sphinx. The film recalls many of Cocteau's lifelong inspirations, preoccupations and obsessions. (Cert. 15)
