A cinematic fantasy based on the tale of 'Beauty and the Beast' (by Mme Leprince de Beaumont, written 1757). Includes additional feature 'Projection au Majestic' = 'Screening at the Majestic', a documentary film with Jean Marais, Mila Parély, Henri Alekan and others talking about their experiences of making the film.

The film opens with an invitation into the world of childhood 'Il était une fois...'
