A Royal Affair

The film is set in the eighteenth century and tells the true story of Princess Caroline Mathilda of Great Britain and her unhappy marriage to King Christian VII of Denmark.

The King, suffering from mental illness, hires a German doctor, Johann Friedrich Struensee, to be his personal physician who then begins an affair with Caroline.
