A large collection of previous examination papers and practice resources for reference and use by the staff and students of the language teaching faculties. All the video, audio and paper resources are held at Reception. Many past papers are also available on LC Online.
- Language learning and language teaching collection
Comprises specialist material in the areas of language education and pedagogy, learning and instructional technologies, language teaching methods, language learning and acquisition, language advising, language planning and language policy, bilingualism and similar fields. Classification: O and U
- Language education collection
Comprises a number of books and directories on language study, languages and work and careers; language reports and inquiries, and general works in foreign languages in education. Classification: A
- Language and languages of the world collection
Consists of encyclopaedic dictionaries and glossaries on language and linguistics; series of monographs and in-depth studies of on language/s and language surveys, many of which of special interest to linguists. Classification: E
- Linguistics/Phonetics collection
Comprises
- Specialist material for language learning, teaching and research in general linguistics, phonetics and phonology, sociolinguistics and applied linguistics
- Audio samples of readings in less widely spoken languages and in some endangered and extinct languages (Aramaic, Abaza, Coptic, Kabardian, Karapalpak, Maidu, Tlingit, Samoan; Ubykh, etc)
- Video recordings of interviews with outstanding individuals (e.g Kenneth L. Pike, Roman Jakobson)
- Recordings of lectures and presentations (incl. Professor Jean Aitchison, Professor Peter Strevens, Dr J.L.M. Trim)
- Materials documenting the history and continuity of language studies at Cambridge University
- An increasing number of English language and Foreign language film titles of interest to linguists
- Sign language and Lipreading resources are shelved under this collection
- Media and film documentation
- History, culture and heritage
