Dr Satyendra Srivastava was for many years a senior language teaching officer at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (formerly Oriental Studies), University of Cambridge. He is the author of several books, articles and plays. He also broadcasts in English and Hindi, and for many years he has been a columnist in various Indian publications. He is one of the corresponding editors of AMBIT, London.
He is the author of two collections of poems in English: Talking Sanskrit to fallen leaves (1994); Between thoughts (1999). He has also published eight collections of Hindi poetry, full-length plays and radio plays. His long poetic work Mrs Jones aur vah gali (Mrs Jones and her street, 1978) depicts the life of various ethnic groups living in East London.
Most of the poems have been published in various journals in English and Hindi.
