Jackie Bow

Profile

Jackie has a Joint Honours degree in French and German and gained a PGCE at King's College, London. Her teaching experience is wide-ranging and includes GCSE and A level teaching in independent and state schools in London and Cambridge, as well as language teaching in Adult and Higher Education. She is a consultant for a major Examination Board and a Principal Examiner for IGCSE German and O Level French. She has contributed to Asset Languages and was a team leader representing the UK for SurveyLang, a major initiative by the European Commission to support the development of language learning policies across Europe. Jackie is a board member of Routes East, one of the consortium of Routes into Languages.

She has worked at the Language Centre, as Project Manager for CULP4SC and has been involved with CULP since the programmes were first launched in 2000.

Isabelle Fournier

Profile

Isabelle grew up in the south-west of France (Bergerac) and went to university in Bordeaux, and then in Germany where she spent a few years. Isabelle has lived in Cambridge for several years and has been teaching CULP French at the Language Centre for four years.

She is also an Assistant Lecturer at the Open University, a BBC author, and a chief examiner at Cambridge Assessment.

Marie-Géraldine LEa

Profile

Marie-Géraldine comes from Toulouse in the south of France. After completing her MA in linguistics, she arrived in the UK, 19 years ago, to do fieldwork for her PhD in Social Anthopology from the E.H.E.S.S. While working at Leeds University, she decided to stay in England. She then took a second degree in Teaching French as a Foreign Language. She worked for a time in academic publishing before becoming, 9 years ago, an Associate Lecturer at the Open University. At the same time, she took part in language-related projects for Cambridge Assessment. She also teaches at an Independent school in Cambridge.

For the last few years, she has been composing and staging musicals for children in French to build fluency and confidence. When she is not teaching, she writes mystery novels for adults (set in Cambridge) and for children. Her other passion is photography.


Françoise Steel

Françoise Steel

Profile

Françoise originates from Paris where she studied at the University of Nanterre. She then moved to Cambridge and gained experience as a teacher for Adults at Community Colleges through evening classes and at the Alliance Française. Having taught at the Language Unit of the Engineering Department for 7 years she then joined the Language Centre when the CULP courses first started in 2000 and has been part of the team of teachers ever since. Françoise contributed to the production of BBC learning programmes and has been an exam writer and a proofreader for Asset languages for a number of years.

Over the past 20 years she has also been running her own business, setting up courses for professionals at all levels and organising translations in a diversity of languages.
