Red Sorghum (Hong Gao Liang) (1987)
The owner of a remote sorghum winery dies, leaving his young wife Jiu'er to re-build the business with a small team of dedicated workers.
The small community enjoy a successful and peaceful way of life until the Japanese army invade the area. The workers are forced to cut back the sorghum in order to make way for a road and in the consequent and bloody uprising, Jiu'er is killed.
