Using LC Resources

About using LC Resources & LC Online

Use of the John Trim Centre and its resources is free of charge to all current University members.

Using LC Resources

University members

If you are a University Member, simply bring your University Card each time you visit and scan it as you enter via Reception.

If you are not a current member of the University, but would like to use the Language Centre, you may apply to become a fee-paying member.

Fee-paying members

Our current fee-paying members include Cambridge alumni, partners of university members, retired staff and other members of the public.

An annual fee (currently £50) is charged for access to the resources in the John Trim Centre. This includes an initial one-to-one appointment with one of our Language Advisers.

Due to copyright restrictions many of our online resources are only available to members of the University.

Interested parties should contact the Advising Team on 01223 335058 or email enquiries@langcen.cam.ac.uk for registration information and a link to our online payment site. 

Online Learning Materials

An increasing number of our learning materials are being made freely available online. If you would like to explore these materials, please visit our Open Courseware section.

Using LC Online

The Language Centre provides online language learning materials for all University of Cambridge users. Resources include audios, videos, text, images, interactive exercises, support materials for CULP and ADTIS courses and past examination papers for CU language faculties.

Resources are available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

All materials on LC Online are accessible from inside and outside the CU network using Raven authentication.

Some of the resources available on LC Online:

  • Multi-media materials in many languages
  • Films and documentaries in many languages
  • John Trim Centre (JTC) Online Audio Resources - easily accessible audio resources to accompany courses (Only available in the JTC)
  • Cambridge University Language Programmes (CULP) Course Online Support Materials
  • Academic Development and Training for International Students (ADTIS) Learning Objects
  • Other online resources that have been developed the Language Centre online development team to help language learners in many languages and at all levels.
