Planning - choosing your source materials

Providers of online learning materials do not necessarily need to know how to technically provide them, but as providers of content you do need to develop an understanding of how to design effective online learning materials and the constraints you might face in doing so.

Before beginning to plan any online resource ask yourself two questions.

  1. Who will be able to access your online resource?
  2. Where will they be accessing it from?

When answering both questions you should think ahead. If you are developing the resource for a specific purpose how likely is it that you will want to re-use it with a different group of users and possibly for a slightly different purpose, and if the original use is in a restricted educational environment will that always be the case or might it be used more widely later?
