The following resources will support all newcomers to language teaching in Higher Education. They include a slideshow to help you reflect on the beliefs you might bring to the classroom when you first teach, a practical handbook, an extensive online modular self-study training resource and a source of guidance and resources to get you started.

Developing expertise for language teaching: the role of beliefs
- a presentation by Professor John Klapper to stimulate reflection on how past language learning experiences might influence your approaches to teaching.

Klapper, J (2006) Understanding and developing good practice: Language teaching in higher education. CiLT, London - The only handbook on the subject, this covers both theory and practice.

DELPHI at the University of Birmingham: http://www.delphi.bham.ac.uk/
- An online training resource originally developed for lectors and graduate students new to teaching languages in HE. There are a range of online modules to follow. Access is free after a light-touch registration on the site.

The LLAS Resource Bank: http://www.llas.ac.uk/resources
- This site, developed over a number of years when the LLAS was the publicly funded HE Subject Centre for Languages Linguistics and Area Studies includes a Materials Bank of teaching materials created by colleagues across the sector, and a selection of articles on pedagogy within the field (the good practice guide). Some of these resources are listed in the following sections.
