Introduction to Cambridge University Language Programmes
Cambridge University Language Programmes provide language learning opportunities for all members of the University. General language courses are offered in Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. CULP also features a number of specific purpose courses. These courses are either specifically designed for a Department/Faculty/School (eg. German for Historians), or they focus on a specific language skill (eg. reading), or they approach language learning by focusing on a specific 'content' (eg. Italian through Film). These courses include:
- French and Spanish for Medics
- French Pronunciation through Literature
- German and French Academic Reading for graduate students at the School of Arts and Hunamities
- German Academic Reading for Historians
- German Reading (general)
- German Reading for Scientists
- Italian through Film
- MBA Mandarin Chinese
For full details of all courses go to the
CULP enrolment pages on LC Online (Raven access).

A.J. Pressland Fund
In his bequest, A.J. Pressland expressed the wish:
"That my bequest to the University may be used to provide instruction in modern languages to science and medical students."
The Pressland Fund offers bursaries to help students attend Language Courses abroad during the Long Vacation Term. Priority is given to students from departments within the Schools of Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Technology and Clinical Medicine but all members of the University may apply. The bursaries are available for students who will be continuing academic study in Cambridge during the subsequent academic year.
