Open language learning courses in the University

Many colleges and departments throughout the University offer open language courses. If your college or department is running a language course that is open to other members of the university please email webmaster@langcen.cam.ac.uk so we can add it to the list. You can send full information about the course or just a link to your own online information.


Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic
The Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic offers the following non-tripos courses open to all members of the University, during the academic year. For more information contact asnc@hermes.cam.ac.uk.

Department of Archaeology & Anthropology, Division of Archaeology
A series of informal beginners' classes in Sumerian will be held in the division of Archaeology on Wednesdays, 14:00 - 16:00 starting on 31 October. Sumerian is a linguistic isolate. It was spoken in Ancient Iraq, from at least the early third millennium BC to - probably - the early second, though it continued to be used as a scholarly language even into the Common Era. All University members are welcome. Classes will be held in the Division of Archaeology.
  • 31 October & 14, 21 and 28 November in the South Lecture Room & 7 November in the West Building Seminar Room.
Learning materials will be provided in the first session. If you are planning to come, please email Martin Worthington on mjw65@cam.ac.uk to give some idea of numbers in advance.

Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies
If you have an academic need for knowledge of Hebrew, Hindi, Urdu or Uzbek these classes may be for you.

The Department of of German and Dutch offers the following non-tripos course which is open to all members of the University:

Institute of Continuing Education
The Institute of Continuing Education offers residential weekend or week-long courses at Madingley Hall in French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Modern Greek. Some are aimed at beginners while others offer aim to build on previous study. Courses are held in the target language and are taught by native speakers. CU Anglo Japanese Society - Japanese Lessons
The The Anglo Japanese Society offers Japanese lessons for anyone interested in learning the language. Currently there are three levels: beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate. Visit the society's website for more information.
